With “Rolling Dice”, the five Eastern Swiss reggae musicians from “Jar” are rolling out their second album (mixed & mastered by Umberto Echo) into the wide world under the Basel label “N-Gage Productions”. After the release tour of the 2020 debut LP “Love Rocket” had to be ended abruptly due to the pandemic, there was enough time for reflection. The lessons that the band brought into the studio: That you should let fate take its course, but still make the best of every situation. The dice have to roll. And so this work is thrown out into a world where basses swing again, people and smoke fill the dance halls again, the beer flows and friends lie close in each other's arms to good music.
LOS BILLTONES from greater Zurich have a very clear idea of how they want to sound: like the Jamaican rocksteady formations from the 60s and 70s, at the time when early reggae gradually emerged from ska. Rich riddims, soulful singing and big feelings. Several years of work went into her debut work “For A While”. The stories that are told are personal and yet timeless. With three-part vocals, LOS BILLTONES sing about unfulfilled love, longing and hope, in between organ, trombone and guitar outdo each other with heartbreaking melodies. And indeed: This band managed to sound as if someone had found a 50-year-old record on the attic, briefly blew the dust away and then turned on the record player.
"Unification" is not only the (chrono)logical conclusion in terms of the album title and offers another 15 brand new street punk and skinhead RnR songs! With songs like “Bent out of Shape” or “Beat it Kid”, Gimp Fist seem to be shaking off the last pandemic years with a lot of steam, speed and full of hate. to call the “Curtain Call” to look forward! "Stay True" (to yourself) has always been the band's motto with no ambition to break away from the scene for Mammon & success... "These Boots" are still not being hung up and with "Without you" there is probably one of the greatest hymns to all punks & skins.
THE PRIZEFIGHTERS are back with their third album full of vintage Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae, full of socially conscious lyrics paired with fantastic retro vocal harmonies. The band was founded in 2006. Now it's time to release twelve new songs, ranging from early reggae ("Kick The Can", "What Are You Going To Do") to old school ska ("Company Time", "Think & Pray") to to the dark, murderous Upsetters style on “The Hand At The Door”. Whatever your preference for old-school Jamaican music
With their latest album, Ska / Oi! Band from Bernau near Berlin released a best of their Songs, the whole thing sung entirely in English. Since, according to the band, their own knowledge of English is more than modest, the group has received active support from other Bands and their Singers such as Brutal Bravo, The Valkyrians, Bishops Green and Offenders.
With patSKAts there is a new act in Switzerland that is really getting started. Loud! Fast! Good! Or better! And still danceable. The 12 songs on the album - seven originals, five covers - are a big bang! And as befits a band that is musically rooted in ska, reggae and punk, a good dose of social criticism cannot be missing. And the quartet has an incredible flair for melodies that the audience can definitely sing along with at least as much passion. Or bawled along.
Arguably the best Jamaican soul singer of his generation, Ken Boothe burst onto the international stage when his sublime rendition of Bread's melancholic "Everything I Own" topped the British charts in the fall of 1974. Just months after that success, the Kingston native returned to the national charts with the captivating "Crying Over You," which peaked at No. 11 later in the year. Coinciding with the release of the latter, Trojan Records released the album Everything I Own; a deeply soulful collection that included his two international hits alongside a number of superbly produced songs recorded in both Jamaica and the UK. *Music on Vinyl
