Derrick Morgan is one of Jamaica's greatest artists and the uncrowned king of ska. The album was originally released in 1974, right in the middle of reggae's heyday, under the title "In The Mood". However, even back then the working title for the project was “This Is Derrick Morgan”. Why? In the reggae world, a title that begins with "This Is..." is usually used for newcomers and their first showcase. In Morgan's case, the album was intended, among other things, to establish him as a reggae singer. A request that is actually superfluous from today's perspective, as Morgan's powerful voice firstly stands on its own and secondly rolls with every riddim. In the case of “This Is Derrick Morgan,” these come from producer legend Bunny Lee.

Radiation Roots presents a remake of Dennis Alcapone's "Guns Don't Argue", originally released in 1971. Dennis Alcapone was one of the first to cement his reputation as a star toaster with the small but popular El Paso sound system at Waltham Park After U Roy's breakthrough in the late 1960s, DJs became increasingly well-known. Born in rural Culloden, Dennis Smith immersed himself in the sound system culture after settling in the west of Kingston. When El Paso came out big in the sound system scene, Keith Hudson brought him to the studio for his debut recordings, which led to a debut album for Studio One and hit material for Duke Reid. Alcapone's long-standing ties to Bunny Lee led to the excellent album Guns Don't Argue.

The Deltones were one of the only female ska/reggae bands in the UK. The band was founded in 1985 by former Delta 5 singer Jacqui Collins and keyboardist Sara McGuinness. Their debut album Nana Choc Choc in Paris featured trumpeter Penny Leyton, saxophonists Anna Keegan and Nicky Ford, guitarist Serena Parsons, keyboardist Julie Liggett, bassist Angela Risner and drummer Jeremy Brill. On vocals were Amanda Fenn, Dill Hammond and Verona Davis. The band broke up shortly after the release of their second album Oddball Boy at the end of 1989.

When he recorded Better Must Come in 1971, Delroy Wilson was at the height of his fame in his native Jamaica. The following year, Trojan Records issued the album in the UK, and his reputation as one of reggae's most soulful singers was secured. Listening back to this timely reissue, it's clear that the set was one of the late artist's finest collection of cuts. It was the first of his albums to be produced by Bunny Lee (he'd previously worked with Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd at Studio One) and delivered a particularly warming, soul-fired take on rocksteady that sounds every bit as impressive now as it did it 50 years ago.

Chris Murray is a unique figure in today's music scene. The Canadian pioneered an intimate singer/songwriter approach to modern ska music. His co-writing and producing credits in various capacities appear on work by the Planet Smashers, the Slackers, the Stubborn All-Stars and Neville Staple. The Chris Murray combo's first album, Why So Rude, was released in 2008. Like his earlier solo records on Moon NYC and Asian Man, it was stripped down and raw, super authentic 60's traditional ska, honor only. "BUCKLE UP" picks up where "WHY SO RUDE" left off...with the usual top notch songwriting backed by a simple and organic drum/bass/acoustic guitar reggae and ska vibe.

Originally this was an ultra rare 1989 album from Buster Bloodvessel of Bad Manners fame. This spin-off group’s LP is one of the most sought after collectable Ska releases of the 1980s, Mad Butcher is pleased to present this high quality reissue on their sub-label Black Butcher Classics.

There are few Jamaicans with as impressive a career as George Dekker. Hitmaker Desmond Dekker's half-brother's career took off in the late '60s when he joined Kingston singing group The Pioneers. The Blackfire album was written and produced by Boss Capone: core member, songwriter and producer of the Dutch early reggae band The Upsessions. Having written and produced five albums for The Upsessions (including one with Lee "Scratch" Perry) and three as Boss Capone, this is his ninth album to date.
