Derrick Morgan is one of Jamaica's greatest artists and the uncrowned king of ska. The album was originally released in 1974, right in the middle of reggae's heyday, under the title "In The Mood". However, even back then the working title for the project was “This Is Derrick Morgan”. Why? In the reggae world, a title that begins with "This Is..." is usually used for newcomers and their first showcase. In Morgan's case, the album was intended, among other things, to establish him as a reggae singer. A request that is actually superfluous from today's perspective, as Morgan's powerful voice firstly stands on its own and secondly rolls with every riddim. In the case of “This Is Derrick Morgan,” these come from producer legend Bunny Lee.
