The ska pioneers from Jamaica have been active since their foundation in 1963 with studio albums as well as on worldwide tours. The Skatalites created virtually all the pieces that inspired later reggae icons such as Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff or Pete Tosh to explore new musical realms and give their native Jamaica a worldwide audible mouthpiece with Raggae. After several line-up changes, a new album is now released after five years with »Walk With Me", which does not make the band look "old". Rather, the Skatalites show themselves to be timeless masters of their trade, which can sometimes sound quite modern. As hints, "Dub Lalibela", "Love is the Way" and the title track are recommended.
The Void Union, the ska quintet from Boston, has clear musical goals in mind: preserve the Jamaican music of the 60s, work with ska originals and activate guest musicians from the ensembles that share this task. The list of their guests reads like the who's who of the ska scene: Derrick Morgan, The Skatalites, Lynval Golding, King Django, Angelo Moore, Chris Rhodes and David Hillyard. The Void Union is currently setting new standards for the scene of traditional Jamaican music with excellent self-compositions and guest compositions. Her latest album, "Higher Guns," carries the unprecedented charm of the soundtrack to the first James Bond film Dr. No. It is not for nothing that the album can confidently be described as an absolute masterpiece of the jazzy Trad-Ska.
The new Yorker's second studio album! The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble is a true all-star band formed in 1994 by members of established and prestigious bands. In addition, the NYSJE is the first American ska band to perform in Poland after the fall of the Wall. In the meantime, the Jazzmen have gained a large fan base and can record hundreds of concerts all over Europe and America on their credit page.
Most of the master tapes of Laurel Aitken's early music are lost. So it's no surprise that he or a promoter came up with the idea of re-publishing his hits, which Aitken performed at 70. On this CD he has prominent support from musicians who worked together on the project Jazz Jamaica: Gary Crosby, Eddie Tan Tan Thornton and Rico Rodriguez. The titles of the CD are very well selected, representing a cross-section of his work from 1959 to 1980.
Very good compilation of the Godfather of Ska, 20 sometimes very rare tracks and unreleased versions, some tracks are drawn from the vinyl from Laurel's private collection, because the records no longer exist and the original tapes have been deleted for a long time.
The Grand old Lady des Ska und Rocksteady (formerly with the legendary SKATALITES), also called "Queen of Jamaica Ska", is still active and delivers a top album in collaboration with the Belgian MOON INVADERS. 14 fantastic tracks that will inspire the fan and dominate the various nighters!
